Date: May 12, 2015 Categories: Blog

In April, the Jefferson CAC was honored to participate in a variety of Child Abuse Prevention Month events. We shared many of these on our social media accounts and invited our followers to participate.

For those of you who might be curious about how these events turned out, we’d like to provide a recap.

On March 31, Pinwheel Gardens were planted in Jefferson Parish to raise awareness for child abuse prevention. These were located in the following locations:

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office

Westwego Police Department

Jefferson Parish First Parish Court

Kenner Police Department

Gretna Police Department

Jefferson Parish Government Building

Rivarde Detention Center

Harahan Police Department

Yenni Building

Jefferson Parish Juvenile Court

On April 8, the Jefferson CAC held an open house and mandated reporting training for Jefferson Parish School personnel.

On April 9, we partnered with Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana, the New Orleans CAC and NOPD to host an awareness event at the Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. A press conference was held and Archbishop Gregory Aymond presented alongside Jefferson CAC Executive Director Erika Dupepe and New Orleans CAC Executive Director Stacie LeBlanc.

On April 15, the Jefferson CAC partnered with CASA Jefferson for the Light of Hope Event, which honored the memories of the 31 children killed by abuse and/or neglect in Louisiana during 2014. This event recognized the contributions of four Jefferson Parish professionals, in the protection of children. The wrap up for the event was the release of 31 butterflies.

On April 18, our 4th Annual Step Up for Children Gala was held at the National WWII Museum’s Stage Door Canteen. The Gala included a red carpet, photo booth, musical performance by Gypsy Soul featuring Andree Dupepe, silent and live auctions. The event was a smashing success and raised over $60,000 thanks to a huge outpouring of community support!

On April 22, the CAC partnered with the New Orleans CARE Center and CAC for their 10th annual Trees for Life Ceremony, in which 31 trees were given to selected recipients in honor of the Louisiana children that were lost last year due to abuse and/or neglect.

On April 23, Erika Dupepe, Jefferson CAC Executive Director, presented on Child Abuse 101 & Mandated Reporting on behalf of the St. Bernard Battered Women’s Shelter for their National Crime Victims Awareness Event.
