Join us as we welcome our new Americorps VISTA, Jackie Hammers-Crowell!  Jackie is coming to us from Iowa, where she worked in the foster care system for 14 years.  She helped start and build a statewide foster youth empowerment organization that teaches self-advocacy and life skills to current and former foster youth.  Jackie graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Journalism and is currently working on a web technologies degree.

As an Americorps VISTA at the Jefferson Children’s Advocacy Center, Jackie will be managing our social media accounts, assisting our multi-disciplinary team coordinator and maintaining our database.  She is excited to be managing the social media accounts and has been looking forward to gaining additional knowledge about the CAC’s role in child welfare.

When a flood devastated her home town, Americorps volunteers helped put the city back together.  This inspired Jackie to explore Americorps opportunities, prior to relocating to Louisiana in May.

Fortunately for us, when the VISTA position became available, both parties believed that Jackie’s skill set would fit perfectly with the mission and staff at the CAC!

Jackie enjoys spending time with her husband and five-year-old daughter, shopping, traveling, photography, watching “Doctor Who” and writing.

Welcome to the JCAC and New Orleans, Jackie!  We are so excited to have you!
