McGiffin to Complete VISTA Experience

Date: July 23, 2014 Categories: Blog

Please join the Jefferson CAC in bidding farewell to our AmeriCorps VISTA, Bridget McGiffin. Bridget will complete her year of service with us on Thursday, July 31st.

“One of my highlights has been working with the Jefferson Parish Multidisciplinary Team and learning from all of the professionals who are working for the best interests of the children that they serve,” Bridget said of her VISTA experience.

Among her many contributions as a VISTA, Bridget worked with CASA of West Central Louisiana before joining the Jefferson CAC.  While in Jefferson Parish, Bridget co-facilitated the training of 34 community members in the Darkness2Light Stewards of Children sexual abuse prevention curriculum, maintained the CAC’s social media accounts, worked on the CAC’s 3rd annual “Step Up for Children” Gala and provided tremendous administrative support.

“AmeriCorps has definitely opened a lot of doors for me that I don’t think I would have gotten the opportunity to enjoy otherwise. I have always wanted to serve, through volunteer work or something like that. It has been challenging at times, but I have really appreciated the chance to be a VISTA and see that there are good people out there who want to work for children. The kids themselves have had a huge impact on me, by allowing me to witness their resiliency,” Bridget reflected.

Bridget’s plans for the future include attending graduate school at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. to earn her Masters of Social Work and also interning at the Children’s Law Center.

“I am looking forward to experiencing a new city and being closer to family,” Bridget said.

On behalf of the Jefferson CAC’s staff, Board of Directors and community members, thanks for making a difference in the lives of the children we serve and brightening our days, Bridget. We will miss you greatly and wish you nothing but the best!
