School Prevention Program in Full-Swing

Date: October 19, 2015 Categories: Blog

The Jefferson CAC’s School-Based Sexual Education/Prevention Program hit the ground running this past September for it’s 13th consecutive year. The program is now lead by our Therapist Marti Tidwell, with AmeriCorps VISTA Hannah Kaiser assisting. Since beginning in 2002, the Program has reached 29,508 students, with 333 just in the past few weeks at J.C. Ellis Elementary and Terrytown Elementary schools.

The interactive and engaging Sexual Abuse Education/Prevention Program focuses on teaching kids about body safety, what to do if something unsafe happens and how to stay safe on the Internet. The presentation concludes with a body safety book read to the class and a post-test administered, both as ways of reinforcing the lesson’s most important points. All participating students are then sent home with body safety coloring booklets for them and their parents, hopefully creating a household discussion about such a critical topic.

Tidwell and Kaiser are very enthusiastic and excited about educating youngsters on such an important issue, and look forward to reaching more schools and students this year. For more information, or to schedule a presentation at your school, contact us today at (504) 364-3847!
